James C. Picarella

James C. Picarella, 79 of Ripley, passed away March 12, 2019 in Select Specialty Hospital following a long illness. He was born August 17, 1939 in Smithers, WV, a son of the late Charles and Sarah Compton Picarella. He graduated from Montgomery High School with the Class of 1958. Jim was a retired Mill Operator from Kaiser Aluminum which later became Pechiney Aluminum with over 38 years of service and a 50 year member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16 AF and AM. Jim served his community as an Auxiliary Police officer with the City of Ripley. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and served the youth as a little league coach. He was a member of the Jackson County C.B. Club and the Aero Modelers Club. Jim loved to go to High School Reunions, not only his own but others where he could catch up with old friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Patricia “Patsy” Picarella: a son, James “J.R.” Picarella; a brother, Charles Picarella and a sister, Jackie Nickoson. He is survived by son Steve Picarella and wife Terry of Ripley; daughter, Lisa Reed and husband Bryan of Elizabeth; daughter-in-law Beth Picarella of Holley Springs, NC; grandchildren Erin (Justin) Harvey, Meghan (Corey) Sloan, Casey(Jeff) Laird, Ryan Picarella, Victor (Muriah) Rollins, TJ (Lacey) Rollins, Jason Reed, Andrew Reed and Kyle Reed; great grandchildren, Campbell Harvey, Jackson Harvey, Emery Sloan, Waylen Sloan, Ezra Sloan, Kiley Rollins, Holden Rollins and Peyton Laird; brothers-in law, Howard “Slick” Morris and John Morris and a friend whom was like a brother, Larry LaCorte. Funeral Service will be 6 pm Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Bradley Goodwin officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites provided by Ripley Lodge No. 16 will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call from 4 pm until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
