James W. Whisman, 83, of Ripley passed away November 2, 2015 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. He was born July 4, 1932 in Big Stone Gap, VA, son of the late Turley D. and Ora Cleek Whisman. Jim served his country in the United States Navy with four years of active duty and four years of inactive duty. He retired from Ravenswood Aluminum where he had 37 �_ years of service. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley A. Whisman; daughter Debbie (Don) Parsons of Evans; son John (Dorisa) Whisman of Sissonville; brother George Whisman of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren Mandy (Derek) Rhodes of Evans, David (Jessica) Ball of Cross Lanes and Ryan Parsons of Evans; great grandchildren Kiera Casto, Ethan Rhodes, Taylor Ball and Hayden Ball. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. A time of visitation with the family will be from 5:00 pm until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, on Thursday, November 5, 2015 and a procession will leave the funeral home at 11:00 am for the committal service at the cemetery..
