Janet Jones

Jun 26, 1936 — Sep 14, 2026

Sissonville

Janet G. Jones, 90, of Sissonville, West Virginia, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on September 14, 2026, at WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends who faithfully supported her during her final days.

Janet was born June 26, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Phoebe R. Good and Meredith N. Good. She attended Sissonville High School, where she was honored as a Miss Indian homecoming queen.

On June 1, 2026, Janet and her beloved husband, Ray E. Jones, celebrated an extraordinary milestone—their 70th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was a lifelong testimony of love, faithfulness, and devotion.

Janet was a longtime member of Fisher Chapel in Sissonville, where she dearly loved her church family and faithfully served for many years. Her Christian faith was central to her life, and she expressed that faith not only through her service to the church but also through the kindness and love she showed to others. In recent days, those who knew Janet have repeatedly described her with words such as “sweet,” “kind,” and “special”—simple words that beautifully capture the spirit with which she lived her life.

Janet worked for Union Carbide Corporation for nearly 10 years. Following the birth of her only child, Randy, she devoted herself to her family and became a homemaker for the remainder of her life.

Music was one of Janet’s great gifts and joys. A talented pianist, she faithfully played at Fisher Chapel and accompanied The Chapelettes singing group for 65 years. Through countless church services and gatherings, her music became a cherished part of the lives of those who worshiped and sang alongside her.

Janet was also remarkably gifted with her hands and possessed a creative spirit. She enjoyed sewing patchwork and denim purses, making Christmas ornaments, and creating beautiful miniature items. She had a particular love for miniatures and lovingly crafted tiny roses and Christmas packages that she gave to family and friends. These handmade gifts were expressions of the thoughtfulness and generosity that characterized her life.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Good; and brothers-in-law, Keith Hunt and Carl Pitchford.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 70 years, Ray E. Jones; her son, Randy Jones; her sisters, JoAnn Hunt and Joyce Good-Pitchford; and a loving extended family of special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Janet’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital for the exceptional kindness, compassion, and care they showed Janet and her family during her final days.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Fisher Chapel Church, 404 Middle Fork Rd., Sissonville, WV 25320. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev.
