Katherine Jean Casto, 91 of Ripley, passed away peacefully at her home on January 26, 2024 following an extended illness.
Jeanne was born September 20, 1932 in Ripley, daughter of the late Hoyt Glen and Ola Bernice Bever Slaven. She was a very caring and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Jeanne was a member of the Ripley High School Class of 1950 where she was crowned “Miss Viking.” She was also a graduate of Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) and worked professionally at Ripley Department Store (owned by her family), Kaiser Aluminum, and the Jackson County Housing Authority. Jeanne was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
Jeanne is survived by her son Bryce Casto and wife Cheryl of Winfield; daughter Jeemisa Snyder and her husband Wayne of Mt. Laurel, NJ; her beloved grandchildren, Courtney Snyder, Jake Snyder, Zach Casto and his wife Emmalee; and one great grandchild, Josie Casto. She is also survived by Cheryl Sandy and Tess Anthony who provided loving care to her for many years and whom she considered family.
In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jeems “Jim” Casto; sisters Betty Critchfield, Evelyn Shinn, JoAnn “Joie” Scherr; brother, Lee Slaven; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Casto.
A memorial service will be held on February 10, 2024, 11:00 AM, at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Reverend Kerry “PK” Bart will officiate. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to Andrew Callers - Epworth United Methodist Church, 299 N. Church Street, Ripley, WV 25271. This is a bereavement support group that provides assistance to church families, a cause that was near and dear to Jeanne’s heart.
