Jerry W. Cook of Ripley died February 4, 2026. He was born on February 20, 1941, in Hewett (Boone Co.), WV, a son to the late Roscoe and Dona Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Dean Cook; brothers, Don and Doug Cook. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Shelvy Jean Cook; children, Wendel (Tammy) Cook, John (Kelly) Cook, Victoria Cook, Keith (Mary Jane) Stine, Johnathan (Rebecca) Stine, Paul (Ali) Lively, Parker Lively; siblings, Jimmy Dale Cook and Susie Cook Ball; grandchildren, Shane Cook, Sarah Cook Spencer, Sam Cook, Kyle Cook, Cole Cook, Abby Baker, Belle Lively, Bryan Stine, and Ashton Stine; and several other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He graduated from Scott High School with the class of 1959. He later graduated from Marshall University before attending West Virginia University, where he obtained his law degree. He was admitted to the West Virginia State Bar in 1966 and practiced law before becoming a Circuit Court Judge in the 25th Judicial Circuit, comprised of both Boone and Lincoln County. He served as a judge from 1976 to 1988. He then founded the law firm Cook and Cook in Madison. Combined, he had more than 50 years in the legal field. He also owned several commercial and private properties throughout Boone and Jackson counties.
In his free time, he enjoyed cooking, antique cars, and spending time on the farm, especially with his horses. He could always be found keeping up on current events or watching college football; his favorites being Marshall and WVU. Jerry will be remembered for his faith; he attended Victory Church of Ripley, WV for many years.
A service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Waybright Funeral Home at 12p.m. with Pastor Steve Sayre officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 11a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow immediately in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Madison, WV.
