Jewel Virginia Woody

Jewel Virginia Woody, 96, of Ripley passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 following and extended illness.

Jewel was born January 9, 1927 in Outville, OH a daughter of the late Frank and Louise Mueller DeMint

Jewel was a beloved school teacher in Jackson County where she taught at Mountain Flower, Aplin Ridge, Cottageville Elementary, Ripley Elementary and Ripley Middle School during her 36 years of service. Following her retirement, she stayed on a volunteer teacher for 10 years. In her younger years, Jewel was an outstanding athlete in Softball and Basketball and won several most value player awards at various tournaments.

Jewel is survived by her children Kay Hinzman (James), Bob Woody, David Woody (Paulette) and Ronald Woody (Carol); grandchildren Amanda, Melanie, Megan, Anthony and Oakland. Jewel is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Jewel was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul Edward Woody and sibling Dave DeMint, Mike DeMint, June McKinley and Jo Ann Presley.
