Joann Pannell

Joann Pannell, 87 of Ripley made her journey to heaven on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Joann left peacefully with her family by her side. Joann was born July 30, 1934 in Fayette County, WV where she grew up, to the late Roy and Lucy Humphrey. She married Robert “Bob” Pannell and they made their way to Ripley in 1957 when Bob started working at Kaiser Aluminum. Ripley was her home until her death. Joann worked at the First National Bank of Ripley which later became United Bank where she retired in 1996 with 22 years of service. Joann enjoyed playing softball in her younger days and was good at it. She enjoyed bowling in the winter months, but her favorite time was playing Rook with her friends while the husbands were working the evening shifts. In addition to her parents Joann was preceded in death by her husband Bob; brothers Aubrey and Lloyd Humphrey; sisters Irene, Rosalie and Jean and good friend Mary Hurt Joann leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Elaine of Charleston and Lena of Ripley; son Rob (Lisa) of Ravenswood; grandson, Josh of Ripley; sister Mabel Price; brother Ted Humphrey along with many nieces and nephews who she adored greatly. She also leaves behind her best friends Shirley Parrish, “Cookie” Hagy and Hazel Parsons. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Doc Lively Cemetery, Pax, WV with Jack Croiser officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley and from 12:30 until the time of service on Thursday at the cemetery.
