Joe Richard Vandall, Sr.

Joe Richard Vandall, Sr., 90, of Ravenswood passed away December 18, 2015 at his home following a long illness. He was born June 22, 1925 in Boomer, WV, a son of the late Thurmon and Ella Henderson Vandall. He attended Kingston High School until November of his senior year when he was drafted into the Army Air Corp and went on to serve as an air traffic controller during the Pacific Theatre of World War II, including Iwo Jima. He later retired from Kaiser Aluminum where he was a security officer. He was a founding member of the Millsite Baptist Church where he also served as treasurer. Survivors include sons Joe Richard Vandall Jr. of Ravenswood and Jeffrey Wayne Vandall(Laura) of Charleston; daughters Linda Dodson(Jim) of Ravenswood, Rebecca McComas(Garry) of Charleston, Judy Hickman(Rick) of Ravenswood, and Deborah Vandall of Ravenswood; sister Ruby Schofield(Lloyd) of Cleveland, OH; he is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lucille "Tunie" Pannell Vandall and brothers Preston and T.R. Vandall. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Millsite Baptist Church, Cottageville with Pastor Mike Walker officiating. The service will also be broadcasted on the church website, www.millsitebaptistchurch.com Visitation will be from 5-8 pm. Monday, December 21 at the church. There will also be visitation Tuesday from noon until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Jackson County Memory Gardens with Military Rites performed by the Jackson County Honor Guard.
