John P. Bourgeois

July 11, 1951 — January 25, 2024

John Paul Bourgeois, 72, of Ripley went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2024, at Adena Pike Medical Center in Waverly, Ohio.

John was born in 1951, the son of Paul F. and Faye Hall Bourgeois. He was a 1969 graduate of Ripley High School and a 1970 graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College. He was a mechanic and wrecker operator at Boyd’s Garage and Wrecker Service from 1970 to 1972, was a truck driver with McCoy Trucking from 1972 to 1974, and was a truck driver and crane operator with Straley Gas and Halls Propane from 1976 through his retirement in 1997. In his younger years, he served as a member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department.

John was a Christian and a member of Independence United Methodist Church. He was also eager to worship with the Waverly Church of Christ (Ohio) where he was baptized into Christ in 2008, whenever he could.

John enjoyed working on and operating anything with wheels and an engine, hunting and fishing, and woodworking. He was a patriot who loved his country. He was a wealth of information on so many subjects and was of great help to many family members and friends in that regard. He loved his family very deeply.

Surviving are one sister, Kimberly B. (Timothy) Southall of Waverly, Ohio; one nephew, John T. (Michaela) Southall of Waverly, Ohio; great nephews, Lincoln C. Southall and Elijah P. Southall of Waverly, Ohio; a very special and loyal cousin, Rebecca (David) Sinclair, of Ripley, WV; and his best friend, Bill (Stella) Crane, of Ripley, WV.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul F. Bourgeois; mother, Faye Bourgeois; and sister, Rita Anderson.

Friends will be received at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Evangelist Larry Williams officiating.
