John Wayne Currey

Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die…" John 11:25-26 John Wayne Currey, 71, of Ripley, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2017, at Hubbard Hospice House following a courageous fight with cancer. He was born December 29, 1945, in Clarksburg, WV to the late J. Wayne Currey and Sadie M. (Burnside) Currey. John graduated from Salem High School and Salem College in Salem, WV. His career spanned all sectors of the grocery industry, and he was the owner of Ripley Foodland years ago. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Teays Valley Baptist Church and long-time member of Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church. His interests included antique cars, outdoor activities and going to church. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Foster) Currey; daughter Tamera Durbin (David) of Charleston, WV, son Philip Currey (Norma) of Louisville, KY; grandson Tanner Currey of Louisville, KY; sister Jane Currey-Cartee (Phillip) of Minford, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandra K. (Davis) Currey of 47 years. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice for their compassionate care, as well as John’s friends Jim Batton and Dan Endicott for their generous support during his illness. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Mark Leonard officiating. Entombment will be in the Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
