John Paul Boggess, 96 of Kenna passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following a short illness.

He was born July 15, 1930, at Charleston, son of the late Bradford and Ethel Boggess.

John was a graduate from a Sissonville high school in 1948 and went on to West Virginia State College and graduated with a degree in math. He served in the US Air Force for four years in San Antonio, Texas. He was married in 1953 to his sweetheart Sue Fisher Boggess and married for 73 years. He and Sue were members of Fisher Memorial Church where he served as Sunday school teacher for the senior high class, youAD class and served as the Sunday school superintendent for many years as well as a trustee. John ran the sound system for the church for many years as well as spending many hours working at the church in multiple roles. John worked at Union Carbide Tech Center for R&D and retired as the Manager of the Data Center in 1989 following 34 years of service.

After retirement, Sue and John traveled all over the country to many singing schools and singing conventions. John loved to take pictures and make special memory books and pictures for his family and friends for free. John was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Sue Fisher Boggess, nieces and nephews, Nancy Dee (Rick) Lathey, Michael (Cyndi) Ranson, Sherry Boggess Miller, and Michael Boggess; special great niece who was like a daughter to them, Ashli (Brent) Samples; great nieces and nephews, Ambra Dee (Trevor)) Clark, Brittany Ranson (Matthew) Stonestreet, Ryan Ranson, Jace Ranson, and Chance (Kristen) Miller; great-great nieces and nephews, Austin and Blake Samples, Kennedy Clark, Maddie and Sloan Stonestreet and Colton and Kylie Miller; sister-in-law whom was like a sister, Delores Ranson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Tom and Ray Boggess and great nephew, Derek Lathey.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Fisher Memorial Church, Kenna, with Jay Carnell and Pastor Aaron Finney officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. A time of visitation will be from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Fisher Memorial Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in John’s name to the Fisher Memorial Church, 49 Highland Farms Road, Kenna, WV 25248.
