John William “Bill” Waskey went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2023. He was 98 years old.
Born on January 31, 1924 to John Homer Waskey and Rose Helen Weekley Waskey of Sandyville, WV . In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Una Belle (Kerns) Waskey, brother Robert D. Waskey and his eldest son Gary Alan Waskey. He is survived by his children, Beverly Zablocki of Parkersburg, Greg (Connie) Waskey of Given, Mark (Traci) Waskey of Milton and Rebecca Waskey of Ripley; his grandchildren, Pastor Matt (Charissa) Waskey of Clay, Brandon (Lesley) Waskey of Kenna, Anessa (Lyndon) Koskey of Parkersburg, Laura Beth Waskey of Given, Casie (Josh) Lanham of Kenna, Jodie Waskey Melhorn of Fairplain; great grandchildren Dita, Qiqi, Thea, Jason, Zoe, Eunice, Creed, Jagger, Elaina, Jade, AnnaliseXander, Brody, Jax, Jacey, Aria and Billy.
Bill was a World War II Veteran and served as a Petty Officer in the US Navy. He became a Signalman after a two year course at the University of Illinois. He was on the USS Harry Lee where he served in three battles, Guam, Imo Jima and the Phillipine Sea. Bill served as the Postmaster of the Sandyville Post Office for 31 years. And was a longtime member of the Ripley Baptist Temple where he served as Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the Ripley Baptist Temple with Pastor Matt Waskey officiating. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church.
