Johnnie “John” Eugene Gunnoe, 85, of Given passed away May 17, 2022 at Charleston Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born January 25, 1937 in Charleston, son of the late Orville C. and Celestia Toney Gunnoe. John graduated from Charleston High School in 1955 and furthered his education at West Virginia Institute of Technology, Fullerton College, UCLA and many vendor computer and telecommunication courses. He retired from Union Carbide with 27 ½ years of service as a Telecommunications Consultant. Prior to that he was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways Engineering Department and Northrop Corporation in California. John was president and co-owner of Telecommunications Networks Inc. for 19 years. He served as Vice-President of the West Virginia Telecommunications Association and was a licensed Master Electrician He is survived by his lovely wife of 40 years, Sara Yvonne Gunnoe; daughter Cynthia A Wallace; step-daughter Cheryl Payton Bess (Tim); step-son Roy Michael Payton (Sherylyn); grandsons Adam J. Wynn (Dez) and Colt C. Wynn; lovely great granddaughters McKenna Wynn and Jozelyn Wynn; sister Audrey J. Schmidt along with several nieces and nephews. John was very proud of his family! In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Gunnoe Moats; sister Marian F Triplett; grandson Samuel R. Wynn and nephew Jeffrey Triplett. In honoring John’s wishes, he will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Gunnoe Family Cemetery, Mink Shoals.
