Joseph M. "Joe" Fields, 82, of Statts Mill, departed this life for his heavenly home on February 1, 2014 following an extended illness. He was born May 8, 1931 in Jackson County, son of the late David and Pearl Donnovan Fields. He worked many years for the West Virginia Department of Highways, loved to work at farming and loved being outdoors. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruby Westfall Fields, in 2000 and a granddaughter, Kelly Casto, in 2013, five sisters and four brothers. He is survived by five daughters, Betty Crihfield, Patty Casto, Diane Fletcher Thompson, Helen Fields and Ellen Cottrell, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters and two very special people he thought of as his sons, Roger Burdette and Virgil Parsons. A celebration of the life of Joe Fields will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Johnny White officiating.
