Joseph Franklin Walters

Joseph Franklin Walters 91 of Ripley passed away May 28, 2013 at Eldercare of Ripley following a long illness. Joe was born June 13, 1921 at Ripley a son of the late Robert Franklin and Artie Coast Walters. He was a member of the Ripley High School Class of 1940, an Army veteran of World War II and was a Rural Mail Carrier where he retired following 29 �_ years of service. Above all, Joe was a farmer, plain and simple lover of the land that was created by God's hand. He was a former member of the Ripley Lions Club and for a few years managed the Spencer Livestock Market. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. He is survived by a son Joe Walters and his wife Rebekah of Pickerington, OH; daughters Wilma Bennett and her husband Charlie of Ripley and Karen "Janie" Wilkerson and her husband John of Coppers Cove, TX; brothers Robert Walters of Ripley, Charles Lee Walters of Holly Hills, SC, Wynne Douglas Walters and Bill Walters both of Sandyville; sisters Winnie Debalski and Emma Murray both of Sandyville and Brenda Salisbury of Gallipolis, OH; grandchildren Scott Lanham and his wife Melinda, Matt Walters, Joseph M. Walters and his wife Kathleen, Charlie Bennett, Neil Bennett and his wife Kristen; great grandchildren Emily and Brennan Lanham; In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Charlotte Harper Walters,; step-mother Mattie Combs Walters; brothers George A., Clyde C., John "Buckwheat" and Ralley "Zeke" Walters and sisters Blanche Bates and Betty Dorris. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial with Military Rites provided by American Legion Post 107, Ripley will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
