Joyce Ann Carter

Joyce Ann Carter, 76 of Given, passed away suddenly on September 18, 2024 at her home.

She was born June 16, 1948 in Houston, WV, daughter of the late Merle and Helen Garretson Goodwin. She worked as a computer programmer at the Capitol for the State of West Virginia. The best job she ever had, and it was a labor of love, was taking care of her grandson for 11 years, the late Mark Anthony Robinson.

She is survived by her children, James (Delaine) Carter and Julie (Mark) Robinson; sisters, Judy Norris, Vera Howell and Donna Mae Burnette; grandchildren, Matthew Robinson, Jeremiah (Courtney) Carter, Caressa (Lewis) Yates, Catherine (Elijah) Ray and Jordan Carter and her fiancée Nick; Great grandchildren, Isaiah, Avery, Liam, Sedona, Silas and Rylee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, James R. Carter; a grandson, Mark Anthony Robinson, sister, Loretta Goins and brothers, Merle Goodwin Jr. and Ray Goodwin.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Deborah Cottrell speaking. A time of visitation with the family will be from 11:00 am until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
