June Peters

December 27, 1922 — May 19, 2020

Marcella June Peters, 97 of Ripley, passed away May 19, 2020 at her home following a long illness. June was born December 27, 1922 in Orgas, WV, a daughter of the late Tilden and Maude Adkins Hendricks and was a 1940 graduate of Sherman High School. She retired as a Secretary for the Jackson County Board of Education and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley. June loved to shop and travel, especially taking a cruise or traveling to Pigeon Forge. She was known as a great cook especially for her cinnamon rolls and the process in creating such a sweet treat but she loved eating out. Most of all she enjoyed having her family around her, and the more that got together, the better! She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Clyde Peters, whom she married in 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston; her daughter, Judy Peters of Dunbar along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters Jean (Jack) Hurley and Lou (Pat) Goodwin and a brother, Millard Hendricks. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic and with the safety of friends in mind, a private family graveside service will be held at Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. A celebration of June’s Life will be announced at a later date and will be held at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley.
