June Yates

Zelda June Yates, 91 of Ripley, went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2023 at Dunbar Care and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

June was born April 29, 1932 in Poca, daughter of the late Lewis Wesley and Goldie Cook Rowh. She was a 1950 graduate of Nitro High School and was a member of the Ripley Church of God. Along with her Husband they were the former owner and operators of the I-77 Truck Stop in Fairplain. She was a writer and wrote for the Kanawha Valley Leader in Nitro. She also worked as a mail carrier.

June is survived by her grandchildren, Robert Lee Yates, Nova Kathleen Yates, Joseph Wesley “Buck” Yates, Gregory Lewis Yates II, Jesse Yates and Joshua Yates; great grandchildren Gregory Lewis Yates III, Katlyn Yates, Jesse James Yates II, Isaiah Ramsey, Blake Yates, Audrey Yates and Isaac Yates; great-great grandchildren, Isaiah Robinson, Avery and Liam Yates; sister Margie King and brother Max Rowh.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married on November 23, 1950, Robert G. Yates Sr; sons Robert G. Yates Jr and Gregory Lewis Yates Sr.; and her siblings Coy A. Rowh and Sandra Jividen.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Steve King officiating. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 11:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
