Linda Belle Ramsey Smith Butcher, 85, of Sandyville, West Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by her loving husband and children on April 16, 2024. She was born in Big Chimney, West Virginia, on December 23, 1938, to the late Lonnie and Merla Wilson Ramsey. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Garland Raymond Smith; brothers: Arthur, Donald, Fred, Ed, Dick, and Dan Ramsey; sisters: Opal Casto, Kathleen “Catty” Talbert, Susie “Tudy” Copen, Goldie Seabolt, and Jane Drake; son-in-law, Herman Full; and daughter-in-law, Christy Smith.
Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished the word of God and lived a life that honored Him. She had such a warm personality and infectious smile that brightened so many lives, especially her children’s lives. She was one of the most giving and selfless women. She was known for making the best hot rolls. She loved yard sales, sewing, and spending time with family. In her early years, she served as a cook at the Sandyville Community Action and later as a nurse at Roane General Hospital. She was a loving mother to her children and thought of as a “second mom” to several neighbors’ children. She was a loving grandmother to twenty-six grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Butcher; children: Lena Boggess and husband Bobby, Van Smith and wife Sherry, Roger Smith and wife Tammy, Joe Smith and wife Debbie, Ginger Sims and husband Phil, Christina Crowder and husband Paul, Matthew Smith, Melissa Hill and husband Brent, Tommy Smith and wife Michelle, Shannon Green and husband Jody, and Jamie Smith; grandchildren: Mendy Kemp and husband Dave, Jessica Jarrett and husband Jamie, Sarah Wagner and husband Cody, Justin Smith and wife Lindsey, Brock Smith and wife Lydia, Roger Smith and wife Jill, Eric Smith and wife Viloris, Joshua Smith and wife Kelsey, Jeremy Smith and wife Kelcie, Shaylon Parsons, Savannah Fox and husband Erik, Kelsey Roark and husband Justin, Nathaniel Crowder and wife Cassie, Ashley Gump and husband Mickey, Lacey Elmore and husband Zach, Brittany Audette, Ian Smith, Hunter Smith, Jeremiah Rollyson, Corey Hill and wife Adriana, Megan Hill, Lydia Smith, Taylor Green, Aja Holmes and husband Timothy, Marissa Johnson and husband Seth, and Gracie Smith; and great-grandchildren: J.T., Makayla, Logan, Lewis, Morgan, Grant, Cooper, Archer, Rogen, Jagger, Deklan, Grayson, Kinsley, Millie, Maisie, Malane, Bentley, Piper, Sadie, Makaden, Micaiah, Jonah, Solomon, Graham, River, Wrigley, Riley, Danny, Isabella, Ryland, Greyson, Alana, Natalie, Ayvah, Cohen, Dawson, Mila, and Marley.
The family would like to thank HospiceCare and Jackson County Commission on Aging for their services and would especially like to thank Katrina Bragg, Sharon Ellis, and Toni Riser for their excellent care and comfort. These three beautiful women will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Jackson County Memory Gardens.
