Mackie Goodson

Velma Maxine “Mackie” Goodson, 79 of the Tug Fork Community, Ripley, passed away October 20, 2026 at CAMC Memorial in Charleston following an extended stay and a long bout with health problems.

She was born May 8, 1947 in Vicars, Roane County, WV, daughter of the late Wayne E. and Mabel M. Jones Hatcher. Mackie loved studying her Bible, reading, playing games with her family and was a talented seamstress. She was a wonderful Christian woman who was loved by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mackie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, William Thomas “Tom” Goodson. They were married January 7, 1967 at Salt Hill Community Church. She accepted Christ as a young girl. After marriage she and Tom were members of the Salt Hill Church for many years. She was a member of the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church for the last 28 years. She enjoyed serving the Lord in teaching Sunday School class as well as serving in several other ladies’ ministries.

She is survived by daughters Lisa (Kelly) Snyder of Ripley, Lori (Jeff) Renner of Arvilla, WV and Lynn Allen of Middletown, DE; son Tommy (Bri) Goodson of Ravenswood; grandchildren Becca Snyder, Luke Snyder and Rachel Snyder of Ripley, Derek (Kayla) Renner of Twinsburg, OH, Danielle (Drew) Casto of Arvilla, WV, Dillon (Sarah) Renner of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Alisha (Trey) Dunkelberger of West Lake, FL, Drew Allen of Elkton, MD and Emily and Matthew Goodson of Ravenswood, WV along with 12 great grandchildren; and brother Steve (Melissa) Hatcher of Ripley.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Keffer, Missionary Dillon Renner and Pastor Kelly Snyder officiating. Burial will be in the Salt Hill Community Church Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call on the family from 5 to 8 pm Friday, October 23, 2026 at the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
