Marion Asby McCoy, 87, of Ripley, West Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Marion was born in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Selley and Gay McCoy on June 15, 1938. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Hinzman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sheila McCoy (nee Oldham); children, Todd McCoy (Cheryl) and Chandra Gray (John); grandchildren, Logan McCoy (Ashton) and Kaycee McCoy; and one great grandchild on the way.
Marion was a proud 1956 graduate of Ripley High School, a place that would later welcome him back as its trusted guidance counselor, where he poured his wisdom and steady encouragement into generations of students. His dedication to education led him to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Jackson County Schools, and later with the West Virginia Department of Education as Director of Guidance Counseling and Testing, roles in which he helped shape opportunities for countless students across the state. Over the years, he worked as the Co-Owner of Lee Mac Associates, he also worked alongside Carl Smith at the Carl E. Smith Inc., a career that carried him and his beloved wife, Sheila, across the country as they visited job sites and embraced life on the road. In addition to his many accomplishments, Marion was also a proud co-founder of Logan Outdoor, LLC., a billboard company he built alongside his son, Todd. What began as an idea between father and son grew into a venture that reflected Marion’s entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic, and belief in building something meaningful for the next generation. He took great pride not only in the business itself, but in the opportunity to work side by side with his son, creating lasting memories while laying a foundation for the future. No matter where his work took him, Marion took pride in everything he did, especially in his family, whom he loved deeply and spoke of with unmistakable pride. He found joy in fishing, traveling in his motorhome with Sheila, riding ATVs, and sharing colorful stories of his many adventures. One of his greatest joys was time spent at the Hartley Run Hunting Camp, a camp he helped found, where he cherished fellowship with friends both young and old, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
