Mark A. Currey

Mark Albert Currey, 57, gained his angel wings after a courageous battle with cancer on May 12, 2021. Jeff, Mark’s brother, and Karen, the love of his life, whom he resided with in Ravenswood, WV assisted and cared for Mark until the end. Mark was born on February 10, 1964, the son of Michael A. Currey and Edith I. Currey. Mark was a 1982 graduate of Ripley High School, where he was a standout athlete in football and wrestling. Mark worked for Hartley Manufacturing for 20 years. He then served as a foreman on the pipeline. Mark will always be remembered for his meticulous yard work. He enjoyed spending time with his brother, Jeff, while running their rabbit beagles together, and fishing in the mountains with his brother, Kevin. Mark also enjoying spending time with his nephew, Jacob, and loved sitting on the deck with Karen, listening to music. He was an avid Mountaineer fan and enjoyed attending his nieces and nephews’ sporting events. His spunk and zest for life will truly be missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edith Ilene Currey and Michael Albert Currey. Survived by his daughter, Gretchen Currey of Ravenswood, WV, Siblings: Charlene Murchinson of Austin, TX, Darlene (Skylar) Montgomery of Mineral Wells, WV, Debbie (David) Stone of Liverpool, WV, Jeff (Donna) Currey of Millwood, WV, Kevin (Wendey) Currey of Ravenswood, WV, and step-mother, Ruth Currey of Ravenswood, WV. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Zekan and staff, and the Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston, WV for their love and compassion they showed Mark in his time of need. Funeral Service will be 4:00 pm Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Friends may call on the family from 2:00 pm until the time of service on Sunday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers you make a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society or the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV.
