Martin Allen Gerwig September 26, 1935 — December 31, 2025 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Allen Gerwig, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on December 31, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 26, 1935, to the late Charles and Ruby Gerwig, Martin was a proud retiree of Kaiser Aluminum, where he dedicated many years of his life. He was a co-founder of The Bo-Mar Club, an organization that deeply impacted the lives of countless individuals in the community. His passion for football was evident throughout his life; he was a true sports enthusiast who enjoyed engaging in discussions about the game. In addition to sports, Martin found joy in mowing his lawn and spending his winters in Florida, where he loved the warm air and fresh seafood, despite his lifelong commitment as a "meat and potatoes" man with a particular disdain for green beans. Martin was an active member of the Cottageville Chapel and the Cottageville Masonic Lodge #54. He was well-known for his warmth and camaraderie, finding a friend in everyone he met. He had a special affinity for classic British roadsters, which reflected his unique character and zest for life. In addition to his parents, Martin is preceded in death by his first wife, Drema Yvonne Gerwig, and his brothers Edwin, Jack, and Gene Gerwig. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha Gerwig; children: Alan Gene Gerwig and wife Gwyn of Cottageville, WV; Timoty Joseph Gerwig and wife Julie of Cocoa, FL; Perry Edwin Gerwig and wife Angie of Huntington, WV; Michael Gerwig and partner Stuart Tompkins of Cocoa, FL; Andre Gerwig and partner Jennifer Gass, and stepson Christopher Morrison and wife Shannon of Fort Myers, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who adored him: Starbuck, Nikki (Paul), Jarrod (Saylor), Tiffany, Alexis, Christin (Willis), Jacob (Taelor), Tatum, and Christopher (Shannon), Ethan, Chloe, and step-grandchildren Andrew (Abbie), Phillip, Katie, and Ivey along with numerous great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Martin's life at a memorial service to be held at Waybright Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10th at 3p.m. A visitation will take place from 1p.m. until the time of the service. We invite all those whose lives Martin touched to join us in honoring his legacy and sharing fond memories. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Bo-Mar Club in Martin's memory, where his spirit of friendship and community will continue to thrive. Martin’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and giving, and he will be greatly missed. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.waybrightfuneralhome.com
