Mary Casto

Mary Frances (Kerns) Casto, 93, of Leroy passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mary was born June 16, 1931 at Sandyville, a daughter of the late Ace and Verna (Snyder) Kerns.

Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family. She not only loved to take care of her family but also opened her home and was a mother to many others throughout the years. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing. For 45 years alongside her late husband and other family operated Casto Department Store in Ripley. Prior to that, she had her own beautician shop, Mary’s Beauty Salon.

Mary is survived by her children Sharon Adkins, Julie Reed (Michael), Charlotte Fields, Ed Casto (Heidi) and Kimberly Miller (John); brothers John and Clayton Kerns; sister Joyce Coon; grandchildren Sancha Adkins, Jason Adkins (Bethany), Nathan Adkins, Zachary Reed (Brandi), Dr. Zebula Reed, Charlea Taylor, Sommer Fields, Shane Fields (Ali), Sydney Cook (John), Haylee Lough (Michael), Mason Casto, Logan Miller (Carly), Levi Miller (Emily); step-grandchildren Haley Ervin (Jared) and Casey Camp (Brad); great-grandchildren Brayden, Braxton and Olivia Adkins, Alexxys and Xandrea Adkins, Marion and Vera Reed, Axel and Willow Reed, Eli and Raelea Taylor, Eliza Fields, Monroe Miller; step-great-grandchildren Anthem and Addison Ervin and Gavin and Addison Camp.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Casto; sisters Una Belle Waskey, Georgia Burton, Dorothy Ohse-Pyles, Ruth Kerns and Phyllis Grady; brothers Don Snyder and Junior Kerns and a son-in-law, Michael Fields.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m Thursday, May 22nd at Waybright Funeral Home with Pastors Bob Keen and David Hinzman officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Sandyvillle.
