Matthew L. Ray

Matthew Lee Ray, 39, of Morgantown, formerly of Gandeeville passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born July 13, 1982 at Ripley a son of Danny Ray and the late Mary Ray. Matt was a 2001 Roane County High School graduate and was a member of the football team and FFA. He also showed steers at the Jackson County Junior Fair. In recent years through his businesses Matt had purchased several market hogs from the Black Walnut Festival. Following high school he moved to Morgantown where he began working for Richwood Properties. He also started his own property management company, Woodmont LLC and had ownership in Spencer Systems LLC. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching football and cheering on his favorite teams, the West Virginia University Mountaineers and the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a movie buff. In addition to his father, Danny Ray, Matt is survived by sisters Amanda Ray and Michele Ray (Geofrey). A memorial service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held 3p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
