Mavis Harrison Rhodes

Mavis Harrison Rhodes, 87 of Kenna passed away April 8, 2015 at Ravenswood Care Center following a long illness. She was born September 24, 1927 in Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Charles and Ora Huffman Harrison. She was a homemaker and attended the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Charleston. She loved planting and gardening along with canning. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Kermit Rhodes; daughter Cheryl Jean Rhodes; brothers Denver and Walter Harrison and sister Sylvia Boggess. She is survived by her son Steven Rhodes Sr. and his wife Linda of Kenna; foster daughter Betty Strickland and her husband Don of Kenna; grandchildren Lisa Hayes and her husband Doug of Mannington, Steven "Charlie" Rhodes Jr. and his wife Angie of Proctorville, OH.; great grandchildren Madison, Tanner and Brent Hayes and Carolyn, Eva and Steven Rhodes III; sisters-in-law Pat Leaptrot and her husband Kenny of Kenna, Doris Boggess of New Cumberland, WV, Retha Harrison of Liberty and Loraine Harrison of Charleston. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Rick DeQuasie officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Garden of Memories in Pocatalico. Friends may call from 1 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank staff of Ravenswood Care Center and Kanawha Hospice for the special care and kindness shown to Mavis and her family. They would also like to thank her friends at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church for the many cards and notes sent to her during her stay at the Ravenswood Care Center.
