Michael McCoy

Michael Lawrence McCoy, born October 21, 1958, in Rapid City, South Dakota, passed peacefully at his residence on the morning of Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Daly, and his father, John Henry McCoy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheilah F. McCoy, and his children: Justin McCoy, Chelsea McCoy (Jacob), Iain McCoy (Emily), and Devan McCoy. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Tanner, Lauchlan, Zoey, Oliver, Aubrey, Asher, and Barret, each of whom he cherished deeply.

Michael dedicated his professional life to labor advocacy and union leadership. From 1974 to 1990, he worked in Labor Relations at the New York Daily News, followed by more than two decades as a Labor Representative at The New York Times from 1990 to 2014. His commitment to workers culminated in his service as President of NYC Labor Union CWA Local 14170 from 2011 to 2023, where he was known for his integrity, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to those he represented.

Michael lived in Linden, New Jersey, from 1981 until May 2024. Upon retirement, he and Sheilah relocated to Ripley, West Virginia, where they found peace and joy together on a small slice of heaven, which they proudly called their own.

Michael will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
