Muriel F. Showalter, 96 of Leroy, passed away September 8, 2017 at Eldercare of Ripley. She was born November 23, 1920 in McAlpin, WV, a daughter of the late Pierce and May Rowe Holt. Muriel lived in Pemberton, WV during her childhood and was saved and Baptized at the age of 12. She was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II. She lived in the Beckley/MacArthur area when she met her husband, Jake. They lived in MacArthur until they moved to the Showalter Family Farm in 1950. She was a homemaker and second mother to a host of her children’s friends. Her door was always open. She taught Sunday School for 14 years and worked Bible School for many years after that. In recent years she attended the Ripley Baptist Temple. She was preceded death by brothers Terry, Hank, her twin brother Frederick Murray and several infant brothers and an infant grandson, and sisters Audrey and Maxine. She is survived by sons Robert (Sharon) Showalter of Elizabeth and Neil Showalter of Parkersburg; daughter Emma (Melvin) Wilkinson of Sandyville; brother Neil Holt of Parkersburg; sister Nancy Holt-Stewart of Parkersburg and sister-in-law Jean Holt of PA; grandson Cliff (Lisa) Wilkinson and granddaughter Michelle Cook; great grandchildren, Andrew and Brenna Wilkinson, Samantha and Emily Cook, Michael White and Whitney (James) Chavey. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery, Wirt County.
