Orville Holmes

Orville James Holmes, of Ripley, formerly of Sissonville, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born May 31, 1930, to the late Russell and Macel Holmes. He was a Christian and a member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church, Sissonville. He was retired from Union Carbide, Institute, with 32 years of service. Orville was a graduate of Sissonville High School. Orville loved to cut-up and tell stories, and made friends wherever he went. He was a devoted husband and loving father and pawpaw. He will be buried on his family farm which he loved dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 62, Rosalee Spradling Holmes, of Ripley; sons, Rocky Holmes and wife Jeanie of Ripley; Tim Holmes and wife Liz of Ripley; Keith Holmes and wife Terri of Ripley; and daughter Victoria Cavender , and husband Chuck of Charleston; grandchildren, Rocky Holmes, Travis Holmes, Sarah Holmes VanAman, Cassie Holmes Burgess, Timmy Holmes, Colton Holmes, Kelsey Holmes, Jessica Cavender Fields, Krissy Cavender Rice, and Chuck Cavender; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Darrell Holmes, Francis Schneider, Eunice Jones, Carol Greene, Diana Allen, Helen Lanham, Anna Gay Young, Faye Fisher, and Evelyn Briscoe. Services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. A visitation will be from 5 pm until the time of the service on Tuesday. A private burial will take place on his farm in Ripley.
