Osburn W. "Babe" Perrine

December 13, 1924 — February 27, 2025

Osburn W. “Babe” Perrine, 100 years old of Ripley, WV (formerly of Edgewater, Florida and Pinch, West Virginia) went peacefully home to be with his Saviour on February 27, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice West, South Charleston, WV after a short illness.

He was born on December 13th, 1924 in Morgantown, WV and spent his early years in Erbacon, Webster County, WV. He was a son of the late Walter and Hazel (Neselrotte) Perrine. Babe was preceded in death by parents Walter and Hazel Perrine, brothers Douglas and Delbert Perrine, sisters Joanna Messenger and Helen Campbell, sons Donald Ray and Douglas Wayne Perrine

He is survived by his loving wife of 78 years, Jacqueline Rose (Friend) Perrine and son Rick (Cindy) Perrine of Ripley. He is also survived by his brother Eli (Evelyn) Perrine of Erbacon, WV. Also, grandsons Matt (Amy) Perrine of Petersburg, WV, Doug Jr. (Michelle) and Ricky (Cayla) and Bill Perrine, daughter-in-law Connie Perrine all of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family.

Babe was a member of “The Greatest Generation” living through the Depression and World War II. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family. Like most of his generation, he could fix, repair, or build most anything. He had many jobs throughout his long life but was retired from Union Carbide Mining and Metals Division with 36 years of service. He had experienced most everything in the mining industry but retired as Safety Director at Carbide Mines in Sanderson, WV. He enjoyed woodworking and made everything from furniture to WV plaques to creative items that he enjoyed giving away to friends and family. Babe loved the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and fishing with family and friends.

He was a born again Christian, receiving Christ along side his wife Jackie in July 1972 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview, WV. His greatest joy was serving the Lord as a deacon, head usher, church bus driver and soul winner. He loved God’s people and the Church. As a carpenter and builder, he had been a blessing to pastors and churches, with many building projects in West Virginia and Florida. Most recently, Babe and Jackie were members of Indian River Baptist Church in Edgewater, FL and Ripley Baptist Temple in Ripley, WV.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army and the US Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy.

The Family would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the doctors and staff of Camden Clark Hospital, Mountain View Health Care and Jackson General Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. John Snyder and his staff, the Jackson County EMS, Amedisys staff, his caregivers Vicky Skeen and Shylia Parker and the Veteran’s Administration, and also the members of Ripley Baptist Temple who have so faithfully visited and helped our father and mother with meals, prayers, and encouragement.
