Phyllis Counts Conaway

Mrs. Phyllis C. Conaway, 91, of Kentuck, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home Friday, July 14, 2017, after a long battle with dementia. She was surrounded by her family. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Adeline Garrett Counts. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; Izetta Biancaniello, Zane Counts, Lynn “Squint” Lewis, Claudette Hicks, Edsel Counts, Huey Counts, Sandra Sazlaw, Zalithea “Zip” Walters. Phyllis married John Conaway (deceased) and they settled in Charleston. After retirement from Union Carbide in 1990 she moved back to Jackson County to be near her siblings and extended family. Phyllis is survived by her children; Deborah L. Conaway, of Kenna, WV, Carolyn and Frank King, of Columbus, OH, Suzanne Conaway and Melissa Armstrong of Kentuck, WV, with whom Phyllis resided, John Conaway of Kentuck, Sandra Conaway of Marysville, OH, and three grandsons; Evan, Seth, Canaan, also residing in Marysville, OH, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Phyllis’ greatest love and joy were her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed flower gardening, early morning walks on the beach, and family gatherings. Phyllis was an avid reader and volunteered frequently at the Jackson County Library. The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 PM, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, West Virginia.
