Quentin T. Balser, 93, of Ripley passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025 in Ripley following an extended illness.

He was born December 7, 1931 to the late Kermit and Theo (Litton) Balser in the Ripley area. Quentin was a 1950 graduate of Ripley High School and remained a lifetime Vikings sports fan attending all sporting events with his family and friends. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Murrey on September 18, 1950. Together they spent his service in the U.S. Army in Germany and France during the Korean War. Following his time in the Army, Quentin also enlisted with the Army Reserves. Quentin retired from Ravenswood Aluminum in 1992 after 28 years of service. He would also go on to work as a foreman for three different construction companies from 1992 until 2015.

Quentin’s hobbies included carpentry, wood working and camping with family and friends. His favorite pastime was visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Ripley Baptist Temple and served as a trustee, sang in the choir and drove a church bus. He was also instrumental in serving his church on many construction projects through the years beginning with the first foundation poured. Quentin’s foundation with his Lord began when he was saved on April 28, 1962.

Quentin is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Frances (Murrey) Balser; children Randal Balser (Carol) and daughter Joyce Balser Easley (George); grandchildren Meredith Easley Miller (Scott) and Brinton Easley (Elizabeth); step-granddaughter Natalie Adams; great-grandchildren Brody, Bennett and Bishop Miller; step-great-grandchildren Emily and Leo Burdette; brother-in-law Frank Murrey (Ann). Quentin is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Quentin was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law Marqueen Grimes (Ernie), Imogene Kirby (Wesley) and Eileen King (Floyd), Betty Murrey Wilson (Dean), Parrish “Ed” and Anita Murrey Headley (Fred), Robert “Bob” Murrey (Ruth), Bruce E. Murrey Sr. (Emma) and Carl Surface (Carolyn).

Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Friday, May 23rd at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastors Grant Garber and Rick Perrine officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Fairplain Cemetery. Military Rites will be rendered by the Jackson County Honor Guard. The family would like to send a special thank you to Kanawha Hospice, Dr. Arif Malik and Staff and the team at Mountain View Care Center for the care and compassion shown to Quentin and his family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Quentin’s honor to the Ripley Baptist Temple, 320 Charleston Dr., Ripley, WV 25271.
