Reva Halbert Hopkins, 92 of Given passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Ravenswood Care Center following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Hopkins was born on March 7, 1922 at Gay, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Walter and Elfie Litton Halbert and grew up on the Halbert Farms , one of which was the homestead of her grandfather. Reva graduated from Ripley High School in 1941, having attended Glenville State College in the summer so she could graduate in three years. She came to Wolfe Creek as a young bride and together with her husband Emory managed the Hopkins Family Farm. In addition to being a farmer, she was an excellent cook, expert seamstress and astute business woman. She loved gardening, traveling, and keeping current on politics by being an election worker for over 40 years. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William "Mike" Hopkins, siblings Ray Halbert, Rufus Halbert, Marie Brown, Ruth Lockard, Ruby Webb and Mary Benfield, she is survived by son Walter S. "Steve" Hopkins of Given, daughter Anna Hopkins Virbick of Dallas, TX and Given and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 1 pm Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. John Slye Jr., Pastor of Grace Community Church in Arlington, VA. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call from 11am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
