Richard Austin Tanner, 83 of Ripley passed away April 30, 2021 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston following a long illness. He was born April 29, 1938 in Clay County, WV, son of the late William and Vena Jarvis Tanner. He worked as a Machinist at Bronze and Steel Company and enjoyed woodworking. Other things he enjoyed was Bee keeping, gardening, the outdoors and talking to friends on the C.B. Radio. He is survived by a son, Timothy Tanner of Ripley; sisters, Donnie Moore, Sue Armstead, Hope Nelson, Zelma Long and Martha Copley; brother, William “Bill” Tanner. In addition to his parent’s he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Burnside Tanner and a son, Russ Tanner; sisters, Frances Greathouse and Helen McCune; brothers Alton “Doc” Tanner, Jeffrey Tanner, Dwight “Doy” Tanner, Carroll Tanner, Glenn Dale Tanner, Johnny Tanner and Andy James Tanner. A time of visitation with the family will be Tuesday May 4, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Coen Cemetery, Stinson, Calhoun County, with Pastor Donald Dalson officiating.
