Robert Nelson Lyons

Robert Nelson Lyons, age 84 of Linden died Thursday, July 29, 2021 at his residence in Linden, Robert was born on March 31, 1937 in Clay County, West Virginia the son of the late Stavley Jasper Lyons and Etta Belle Burnside Lyons and is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Anita Skeen Lyons. He is also preceded in death by a son, Donald Nelson Lyons and 1 brother and 4 sisters. Robert was raised in rural West Virginia, where his father was a cool miner, this is where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from High School an enlisted in the U.S. Air Force retiring with 20 years of service. He retired at Pope Air Force Base and after leaving the Air Force he and his wife liked the area so they bought 15 acres in Linden. There he began farming having a garden, growing vegetables and even peach trees. He loved the outdoors and acquired farm animals. He also started his own cleaning and lawn service business, and contracted to the Army Reserve and military bases. He worked for a short time with Cumberland County Parks and Recreations. He was a very patriotic man who loved his Country and his family. He was a good provider for his family. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the old country music like Loretta Lynn, Marty Robbins and Buck Owens. The family will have visitation on Monday Evening, August 2, 2021 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn. A Funeral Service will be 1p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Goshen Cemetery, Kentuck. He is survived by: a son: Mark Lyons of Linden, NC. Daughters: Melanie Lyons of Dunn, NC and Jennifer Lyons of Angier, NC. Sister: Kay Staats of West Virginia and a Brother: William Lyons of West Virginia. Grandson: Christopher Nelson Johnson of Coats, NC
