Robert Hayse Monk, 90 of Reedy, WV passed away June 27, 2016 at the Hospice, Hubbard house in Charleston. He was born Sept. 20, 1925. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edna Fay (Cecil) Monk, Parents Abner Layefette Monk, and Maggie (Burgess) Monk; Sisters Rosie Bonovich, Mary Monk, Apha Wells, Mary Lou Hill, Thelma Hambrick, and Elsie Lane; Brothers, Ernest Monk and Delbert Monk. He is survived by 5 sons, Gary (Rita) Monk, Lake City, FL, Charles (Patty) Monk, Ripley, WV, Robert (Wendy) Monk, Poca, WV, Duane Monk, Scott Depot, WV, and Roger (Renae) Monk, Sissonville, WV. 6 Grandchildren, Cathy Kirk, Scott Blankenship, Adam (Taysir) Monk, Jill (Brian) Hopkins, Matthew Monk, Dalton Monk and McKinsey Haynes. 5 Great Grandchildren, Ramsie Monk, Wyatt Kirk, Katelyn Hopkins, Holly Hopkins, and Mia Monk. He served in the United State Army and was a World War II veteran of foreign war and a Purple Heart recipient from war time injuries. With active duty in 5 different countries. His years of work extended from a Heavy equipment operator, Business owner and 30 years of service with Libby Owens Ford Glass Co. He was a member of the Ripley Church of the Nazarene for over 25 years and served as a Deacon and Church Treasury. His faith in God was reflected in his every day walk. He was man of Character and Integrity. His love for his Farm and all of its surroundings was his passion and wife of 64 years (Queen Bee) was his life. His life on the farm consist of his cattle, equipment and the feeling of peace it gave him. His love for children and grandchildren was an expression of his smile and excitement in his contagious laugh. His Grandchildren and his Great Grandchildren over the years softened his heart and brought out an even more loving compassionate man. Through the years he was a hard worker and expected nothing less of his sons. He enjoyed the time he had with his boys hunting, fishing, camping and working side by side on the farm. He rarely met a stranger and he always would go out of his way to help his neighbors. His life was rich in his passion for his country and never give up keep moving attitude. He will be missed and thought of often. He will always be his sons Champion and example for their lives. We are very grateful for the love and compassion that Crystal Dicky showed our father and our family during his illness.
