Robert Roy "Bob" Rhodes, 72, of Staats Mill, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Huntington Veteran's Administration Hospital following an extended illness. Bob was born in Jackson County on February 3, 1941 to the late Ermal and Glenva Kessell Rhodes. He was a class of 1959 Ripley High School graduate and worked as a coal miner and power plant operator throughout the eastern United States. Bob lived in "Almost Heaven" for most of his life and has now gone on to the real heaven. He was an avid coin collector and dyed in the wool Ford man. He was ever ready with a joke and a laugh with a multitude of friends up and down his road, enjoyed bluegrass music, watching Hee-Haw reruns and The Price is Right. He was also a combat veteran of Vietnam, a proud marine his entire life and a member of the Marine Corp League, VFW Post 1065 and American Legion Post 107. Family was the center of Bob's world and he took great pleasure in making the children laugh and smile. He lived for special moments with his granddaughters riding four wheelers and doing anything that made them happy. Surviving: His wife of 36 years, Imogene Price Rhodes; Daughter, Cindy Sue Grandon and her husband Shawn of Georgia; Granddaughters, Kaeleigh and Makenzie Grandon of Georgia; Sisters, Evelyn Eakins (Roy) of Parkersburg; Janice Scarberry of Ripley and Jeanie Harris (Carl) of Staats Mill; Special nephew, Mark Rhodes and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a special nephew, Jamie Harris, and a brother-in-law, Harley Scarberry. Bob's life will be celebrated Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Siniaville United Methodist Church withPastor Danny Cummings officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call Saturday evening at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, from 6-8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.waybrightfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Bob's honor to the Siniaville United Methodist Church, 5454 Staats Mill Road, Ripley WV, 25271.
