Roger Lee Best

Roger Lee Best, 85, of Ripley passed peacefully at home on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Born on October 21, 1940, Roger spent 76 years working in the timber industry. He was a true woodsman who took immense pride in his trade as a timber cutter. Known for his incredible work ethic, he woke up before dawn and spent his days scaling ridges and felling trees with precision and care. To Roger, the woods weren’t just a workplace; they were his second home.

When he wasn’t in the woods he could be found flying his plane, driving his race car, traveling the country with his wife, Sandra or relaxing at home watching westerns. He will be remembered for his calloused hands, his sharp wit and his fierce dedication to provide for his family.

Roger is survived by his wife Sandra; his children Tammy (Craig) Hayn of Virginia, Tiah (Alan) Clark and Lora (Jeb) Miller of Ohio, Tracy (Dennis) Keefer and Dave Chase of Ripley; siblings, Pam Rainer and Dan Best, both from Ohio; grandchildren Melissa, Andrea, Kristen, Chad, Stacey, Tori, Derrick, Danielle, Jimmy, Carly, Emily, Katie, Laura, Jaelyn, Koltin and Holli. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Best; brothers Bobby and Rance Best and a sister, Sally Tompkins

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 4th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Dennis Keefer officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Casto Cemetery, Kenna.
