Ronald “Ron” Lane Gaskins, 66, of Evans went to his heavenly home after a short illness surrounded by his loving wife of 23 years and 4 of his 6 children on August 31, 2023.
Ron was born in Weirton, WV on May 22, 1957 to the late Cecil and Bertha Olive (Kimball) Gaskins. Ron retired from Verizon with 30 years of service spending the majority of his time in the Weirton and Morgantown areas. He was the former president of the Communication Workers of American Local No. 2004 in Fairmont, where he served for 12 years. Ron was a proud union member who lived by the terms, “Proud to be union” and “Buy Union.”
Ron was the owner of WV Fine Photography established in March 2008. Besides his family, Ron’s passion was photography. Ron could and would photograph anything, but his favorite place to take pictures was in the natural beauty in wild, wonderful West Virginia. His work was featured in publications such as, Wonderful WV, 55 Good Things about WV, Country Roads Journal, WV South and many others. Ron also co-owned Mountaineer Photo Excursions.
Ron leaves behind the love of his life, Susan, whom he was married to for 23 years; his children Jeff Gaskins and wife Tami Croce and their children Dominic Croce, Aiden Croce, Xander Gaskins; David Gaskins and wife Lauri Kozarian and their children Tylin Fawcett, Marley Gaskins and Kathleen Gaskins; three additional girls were blessed to call Ron their “second father” and he loved them as his own Leann Hicks, husband Bobby and their children and grandchildren Richard, Tia, Sebastian, Izzy, Ariyanna, Jamie, McKenna and Lydia; Leslie Boggess, husband Pat and their children and grandchildren Chelsey, Jordan, Amelia, Delilah, Lindsey, Taylor, Harrison, Ellison, Nathan and Laken; Lori Bullock, husband Scott and their children Nicholas, Zachary and Austin.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday September 5th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Richard, Jamie, Nathan, Jordan, Taylor and Sebastian. Honorary pallbearers will be Dominic, Aiden and Xander.
