Royal "R.L." Casto

April 27, 1934 — September 7, 2017

Royal Leon “R.L” Casto Sr., 83 of Ripley, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 7, 2017 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, following a long illness. He was born April 27, 1934 at Ripley, a son of the late Forrest and Lilly Mae Kay Casto. He was a 1952 Graduate of Ripley High School, Warrant Officer College at Fort Rucker, AL, NCO Academy at Fort Knox, KY and Civilian Police Training at Marshall University. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer, CW4, US Army with 37 years of service. During his life he served in many organizations including VFW Post 5501 where he was a Life Member and former Chaplin, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 107, Life Member of the Reserves Officer Association, former Chair of the Jackson County Red Cross, Former member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department, and former member of the Jackson County Democrat Executive Committee. Former employers included Fisher Chevrolet, Ripley Taxi Service, Jackson County School Bus Driver, Ripley Police Department and Security Officer at the State Board of Education to name a few. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Evadean Fay Fields Casto; a step granddaughter, Amanda McKaughan Carte; step great grandchildren Jackson Carte, Lexi Carte and McKenzie Carte; brothers and sisters-in-law Billy Fields and his wife Debbie and Billy and Elladean Ray. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Royal Leon “Rick” Casto Jr.; brothers Lorine Casto, Forrest Casto Jr., William M. (Ruby Jean) Casto and an infant brother; sisters Virginia (Sam) Bailey and Donna Marie (Wilson) Pelfrey Funeral Service will be 2pm Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Waybright Funeral Home. Ripley . Burial with Military Rites provided by The Jackson County Honor Guard will be in the Parsons Cemetery, Gay, WV. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday at the Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and all staff members at Thomas Memorial Hospital for the excellent care they gave to Mr. Casto during his illness.
