Ruth Irene Kerns

Ruth Irene Kerns, 85, of Ripley passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Jackson General Hospital.

Ruth was born May 25, 1938 in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Ace and Verna (Snyder) Kerns.

Ruth worked for 40 plus years at Casto's Department Store in Ripley where she worked alongside her family and formed many relationships with her customers. In her spare time Ruth enjoyed working with flowers, reading, listening to country music and going on walks. Most of all Ruth loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with them.

Ruth is survived by her siblings Joyce Coon, Mary Casto, John Kerns and Clayton Kerns. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who she treated like her own children, as well as many close friends and extended family

In addition to her parents Ruth was preceded in death by siblings Unabelle Waskey, Georgia Burton, Phyllis Grady, Dorothy Ohse-Pyles and Junior Kerns.

A funeral service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 18th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Matt Waskey officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Sandyville.
