Ruth Walters

July 5, 2026 — September 22, 2016

Ruth Marie Walters, 90, of Ripley, passed on Thursday, September 22, 2016. She was born July 5, 1926 to the late Lorenzo Wetzel Haynes and Mary Elizabeth Tribett. She married the late George Amos Walters on November 11, 1942. They were blessed with five children. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated mother and avid cheerleader for her children and grandchildren. Ruth was a hard-working and loving friend to everyone she met. Her desire to serve others brought her enormous satisfaction and joy. Whether making chocolate covered Easter eggs for the church fundraiser or caring for all of "her" missionaries who served in the Ravenswood Branch, she served with unselfish diligence and love. Honest, humble and dedicated defined who Ruth was down to her core. Her hobbies included writing poetry, sewing, line dancing, cooking and gardening. She loved the outdoors and could sit for hours on her deck watching all of the little farm animals jumping and playing, and pampering her cat, Sambo. But if you were to ask her, she would tell you that her most significant accomplishment in life was that of being a supportive and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She loved with everything she had. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in various positions, including Relief Society President, Primary Presidency and as a faithful Visiting Teacher (which she loved). Survivors include her children, Robert Wetzel Walters and his wife Mary of Hurricane; George Ronald Walters and his wife Ruth of Ripley; Teresa Dawn McCartney and her husband David of Crossville, TN; Neida Rae Starcher and her husband Chuck of Kenna; and David Devon Walters and his wife Charlene of Campobello, SC; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Lillian Rose, survives her. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brother Eugene Andrew, and sisters Isabelle Christine and Marjorie Fern. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2016, at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 501 South Ritchie Avenue in Ravenswood. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:45pm. Special thanks to Jackson Home Health, CAMC and the staff at the Hubbard Hospice House for their tender care and loving service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.
