Samuel "Sam" Elijah Wendelken, 33, of Huntington passed away August 21, 2015. He was born November 2, 1981 in Cheshire, Ohio, son of Susan Wendelken Birdsong. He was a student at Marshall University. Sam was very well read and could discuss any subject with anyone. He enjoyed skateboarding and gaming prior to losing his eyesight. Sam was an accomplished swimmer and attended The American Federation for the Blind School in Colorado. While in Colorado he was very active in hiking in the mountains and skiing. Sam was a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and very accomplished in Taekwondo. Sam attended the Missio Dei Church in Huntington. He is survived by his mother Susan Birdsong and step father Terry of Ripley; his uncle and aunt, Jim and Maureen Wendelken and his four cousins Nathan, Matthew, Naomi and Joshua. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Living Waters Church, Ripley with Pastor Doug Harper presiding. A reception will follow the service at the church.
