Sammy Dean Fields, 61, of Ripley, passed away at his home Sunday evening, October 20, 2013 following an extended illness. He was born May 10, 1952 at Kenna, WV, son of the late Hoyt and Margie Fields. Sammy was a career military man with 14 years in the air force and four years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service and prior to his illness, Sammy also worked in security for the railroad and coal industries. Sammy was a member of the Salt Hill Church. Surviving: Sons, Sammy Dean Fields II of Columbus, Ohio, and Justin Fields of Apple Grove, WV; Daughter, Felicia Shockey of Sandyville; Two brothers, seven sisters and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by one brother. A celebration of Sammy's life will be Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor David Fields officiating. Entombment will follow the service at the Jackson Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Military rites will be provided at the cemetery by American Legion Post 107, Ripley.
