Samuel William Wensil, 95 of Ripley, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and daughter and faithful companion, Lucky. He was born October 30, 1926 in Spencer, NC, son of the late Leonard and Mary Forrest Wensil. Sam served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy. Sam was a pipefitter and built Brewery’s all over the country. He was self employed most of his life and loved fixing things and working in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa Barnette Wensil; daughter Sandy (Dick) Back of New Kent, VA; step-daughters Lois (Clarence) Breen of Grafton, VA and JoAnn (Lynn) Maddrey of Portsmouth, VA; grandchildren David (Lisa) Brinkley, Philip (Tanya) Brinkley and Jeffrey (Katie) Brinkley; great grandchildren Jenna Brinkley, Jacob Brinkley and Tommy Bates along with his beloved step-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Lucky. In addition to his parents he was preceded I death by daughters, Betty (John) Phillips and Barbara Jean “Bobbie” (Joe) Phillips; brother Leonard “Billy” Wensil; sisters Peggy (Bill) Lawrence and Doris Jean (Peaches) Fincher and grandson Thomas “Tommy” Hall. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Herman Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Moss Chapel Cemetery, Jim Ridge, Jackson County. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
