Sandra Sue Walker, 84, of Ripley, West Virginia, passed away May 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Sandy was born on April 2nd, 1942, in Charleston to Robert and Carmalee Kennedy Smith. She lived a life marked by hard work, integrity, and a deep care for those around her. Sandy spent many years as a riverboat cook for AEP, a job she truly loved. She will be remembered for her generous heart, tireless work ethic, and devotion to her family. She enjoyed cooking for others, gardening, and spending time at her second home in Sunset Beach, NC.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Gary Walker; her children, Audrey (Chuck) Waybright, Travis (Noily) Workman, Carrie (John) Williams, Jeremiah Walker, and Megan Walker. Her grandchildren, Craig (Ashley) Waybright, Corey (Victoria) Waybright, Katherine Schneider, Caleb Taylor, Avery Walker, Cason Taylor, and Hayden Bush; great granddaughters, Harper Waybright, Remi Waybright, River Waybright, Rowan Waybright, Ryleigh Waybright, and Gianna Waybright. Only surviving uncle, Clarence Sperrall Harper Jr.; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sandy is also survived by two lifelong friends, who were like sisters to her, Alberta Grandstaff and Linda Whelan.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharon Smith; brothers, Gene and John Smith; son, Mitchell Workman; and her granddaughter, Alexis Walker.
The family would like to express special gratitude to Katrina Bragg, who cared for Sandy since 2024 and whose love and support uplifted the entire family.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Bradley Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call on the family from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
