Shirley "Babe" Painter

Shirley “Babe” Painter, 85, of Liberty passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

Babe was born May 9, 1939 at Given, WV a son of the late Shirley O. and Odie Lee (Casto) Painter. Babe retired from the Maintenance Department of Bank One and also worked at TrueTemper and Dunbar Wholesale. He enjoyed horseback riding and breaking horses, which he did up until a few years ago. He also enjoyed running rabbit beagles. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Babe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy (Casto) Painter; children Shirley Ann Hamon (Jeff), Gary Painter (Terri) and Carol Beth Miller (Terry); grandchildren Adrianne Crawford, David Young (Mallory), Amber Wagner (Norman), William Hamon (Lyndsay), Anthony Bays (Dee), Colton Painter (Haley), Samantha Miller (Cameron), Dylan Miller (Whitney); great-grandchildren Makenzie Crawford, Alexandria Young, Ryann Young, Blair Young, Hayleigh Young, Jackson Bays, Ryan Bays, Lillian Bays, Allison Bays, Journee Painter, Weston Painter and Emery Miller. He is also survived by a great-great-grandson Koda Bays.

In addition to his parents Babe was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Foy Painter and a sister, Bernice Faye Null.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 16th at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Jerry Bonnett officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
