Shirley M. Shumate Morrison

Shirley M. Shumate Morrison 92 of Ripley passed away January 7, 2014 at Eldercare of Ripley following a long illness. She was born October 16, 1921 at Peachtree, WV a daughter of the late William and Lura Vealey Cook. She retired from Jackson General Hospital as a Nurse's Aide and was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved to reading, sewing and gardening. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Herman Shumate, her second husband Dempsey Morrison; son in law Harold Dorton and two brothers and one sister. She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Dorton of Ripley; sons Dan (Pam) Shumate of Silverton and Ronnie (Elaine) Shumate of Ft. Worth, TX; sister Orpha Kostos of Illinois; grandchildren Stephanie Steele, Harold Dorton Jr., Tara Lee, Dana Shumate and J.C. Shumate. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 11 am Friday at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Evangelist David Cook officiating. Entombment will be in the Jackson County Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Cottageville.
