After a short illness, Stephen Keith Harpold, 76 of Ripley, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023. One of seven children, he was born March 10, 1947 to parents W.D. and Anna (Hart) Harpold, of Sugar Creek, Charleston, WV. Steve was happily married to his wife Pat Martin Harpold, for 55 years. They were the proud parents of one daughter, Marla Catherine (Harpold) Graber.
Steve was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Class of 1965. He was a very proud member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. While he enjoyed the fraternity of Masonic Brotherhood, he took great pride in serving his brothers as a Past Master of their Lodge #159 Dunbar, WV.
Being a “jack of all trades.” Steve worked at many jobs, his favorite being a “Land Man” for several oil and gas companies. Steve’s work allowed him to travel nearly every inch of WV, exploring all the backroad beauty and hollers nestled in the hills, making him every inch the proud Mountaineer. He loved to talk to people, help them make decisions about working with the oil and gas companies, as well as studying maps and land plats. In addition to various jobs, Steve always enjoyed working at home, caring for his home and yard. He spent many happy hours in his workshop, completing numerous woodworking, carpentry, and cabinet making projects.
Steve was an avid camper, traveler and a proud American. He and his family have spent countless days camping all around the region in Ohio and West Virginia, with the highlight of the camping season being a family reunion of sorts at the family homestead, at Strange Creek, in Braxton County, WV. In addition to camping, Steve also enjoyed seeing as many iconic landmarks of our country as he could. Some of his favorites include the sand and surf of the tropical beauty of Hawaii, as well as the rugged and majestic Rocky Mountains. Just this past summer, Steve and Pat enjoyed an unforgettable cruise and experienced the wild and breathtaking beauty of Alaska.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Tom Harpold, and two sisters, Sue Flowers ad Pat Hudson.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Martin Harpold; daughter, Marla (Rob) Graber; grandson Ryan martin Graber; brothers Michael Harpold of North Carolina and John Harpold of Fraziers Bottom, WV. He is also survived by many extended family members, including loving nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends. Steve will be fondly remembered and loved by all, and his faithful dog, Darcy.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Visitation with the family will be from 11:30 am until the time of the service on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
