Steven Eugene Lucas, was born on June 29, 1949, in Chelyan, WV at the Chelyan Clinic. He departed this life and went home to be with his Lord on August 29, 2026.
He grew up on Witcher Creek and began school in a one room schoolhouse in Witcher Hollow before its closure. Upon graduating from DuPont High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for four years. Thirteen months of those years were spent in Vietnam after which he received an Honorable Discharge. He also served as Staff Sgt. For twenty-two years in the West Virginia Air National Guard. Steve worked for several years in coal mines, and the DuPont Plant at Belle as a Pipefitter; where he retired after twenty plus years of service
From the time he was born, he was faithfully taken to church at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church where his grandfather, Harry K. Durham, served as pastor for a time. As a child, he made the most important decision of his life when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. His testimony throughout his life was that he knew for certain that his sins were forgiven and that when he died, he would go home to be with Jesus.
Steve loved the outdoors and walking in the woods. His hobbies included motorcycle riding, gardening and sharing vegetables with friends and neighbors. He was a very talented craftsman, working with wood and building his own beautiful Log Home.
He was preceded in death by his father Paul Eugene Lucas and his mother, Inez Delora Lucas.
He is survived by his two sons, Charley and Wesley Lucas; his beloved friend and neighbor, Carol McLane and er children, Lisa Rucker, Tamatak Snider, Sean McLane; one brother, Jimmy Lucas; sisters, Kathy (Stan) Durrett, Shanda (Dwight) Smith, Barbara (Tony) Andrew, Robin (Jim) Hull; aunts, uncles, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A special thanks to Jamie and Danielle Casto for providing care throughout a long and difficult time, and to Carol McLane and Lisa Rucker for their caregiving as well.
